Joe Satriani - Crystal Planet - 1998

Crystal Planet

Crystal Planet is an all instrumental record finding Satriani taking more chances than ever. There are some familiar hard rock and ballad offerings, but what's amazing about this CD is that it shows Satriani's guitar technique continuing to develop and improve, as he explores every splinter of wood on his fretboard. Recorded with the great Stu Hamm on bass and Jeff Campitelli pounding the skins, the energy level is consistently peaked, and the solo work is astounding. Some consider Crystal Planet to be Satriani's finest all-instrumental effort since 1987's "Surfing With the Alien".

Joe Satriani - Joe Satriani - 1995

Joe Satriani

Joe Satriani is a 'rootsier' Satriani record, as most of the cuts are of the 'live-in-the-studio' variety, and demonstrate a blues sensibility. Joe Satriani features the production of veteran producer Glyn Johns (Rolling Sones) and contains excellent guitar work on cuts such as "Cool #9" and "Slow Down Blues". "If" has a grinding, catchy rhythm and "Home" has a nice, quiet soulful tone. "Killer Bee Bop," maybe the best track, almost sounds like it came from the "Extremist" sessions.

Joe Satriani - Time Machine - 1993

Time Machine

"Time Machine" is a double CD set, one disc of studio material (including four tracks from the long-out-of-print "Joe Satriani" EP) and a disc of killer live versions of some of Satriani's best songs. To hear pieces like "Flying In A Blue Dream" performed live can be riveting entertainment, but it also confirms that these ripping ideas aren't just pasted together--or at least that they're not impossible to execute as one continuous stream of playing. "Time Machine" makes an excellent first CD for new fans of Satriani instrumental guitar and will give longtime fans some new examples of incredible guitar playing.

Joe Satriani - The Extremist - 1992

The Extremist

"The Extremist" is a particularly appropriate title for this release, as Satch continues his tradition of exploring new musical ground and the 'extreme' guitar sound. Teaming with producer Andy Johns and aided by the brothers Bissonette (Gregg, drums and Matt, bass), Satriani's guitar talent shines through as he delves into the blues ("New Blues"), neo-folk-with-banjo ("Rubina's Blue Sky Happiness"), funk-rock ("Why") and some concert crowd pleasers ("Summer Song", "Friends"). Guaranteed not to disappoint guitar fans seeking slamming riffs and well-executed solos.

Joe Satriani - Flying In A Blue Dream - 1989

Flying In a Blue Dream

"Flying In A Blue Dream", another of Satriani's outstanding instrumental guitar CD's, also features Satriani on vocals for the first time on six tracks. Satriani's voice isn't the highlight of the CD, but it fits relatively well with his music, especially on the acoustic-flavored, uplifting "I Believe". "Flying In A Blue Dream" contains numerous examples of Satriani's signature playing style and the amazing variety of effects and tricks he coaxes out of his guitar. Wild riffs, soaring solos, great music -- an instrumental triumph

Joe Satriani - Surfing With The Alien - 1987

Surfing With the Alien

"Surfing With The Alien" rocketed Joe Satriani to the top of the instrumental guitar heap in the mid-80s, as he proved equally capable of fast flights of blinding technique as well as sweet, lyrical passages. Recorded with equal parts drum programming and real drums (courtesy of Jeff Campitelli), Satriani served up his guitar and bass on a silver platter. Witness the twisted, horizon-pushing "Ice 9," the fiery solo flights on "Surfing with the Alien," the straight-ahead, slamming rhythms of "Crushing Day," and the soulful beauty of "Always with Me, Always with You". "Surfing With The Alien" remains a true instrumental guitar classic.

Joe Satriani - Not Of This Earth - 1986

Not Of This Earth

Joe states, "Not Of This Earth was recorded in early 1985. The music reflects a collection of ideas I'd been working on at the time. My goal was to make a "guitar-record" that would be enjoyed by all; not just a "guitar-chops-record" but one with real music on it. It took 107 hours to record and mix all of the material. The pace was brisk but exhiliarating. And with the help of John Cuniberti and Jeff Campitelli each composition developed into a unique statement of texture, emotion and style. Not Of This Earth on CD can be an amazing audio experience, so turn it up!"
